When it comes to houses, creaking and groaning aren’t necessarily signs of old age. House noises are usually caused by fluctuating humidity and temperature (also called thermal expansion and contraction).
A house can crack due to temperature changes because building materials like wood, concrete, and drywall expand and contract with fluctuations in temperature, causing small cracks to form, particularly at joints and corners, especially when experiencing extreme shifts between hot and cold weather.
